The San Carlos Museum | Near San Carlos Hotel

back of main viewing art in a gallery
San Carlos is a little Californian suburb with a big history. If you enjoy learning about history, then the San Carlos Museum of History is just for you. Located in downtown San Carlos, less than ten minutes from our San Carlos hotel, a day at the museum is a great way to let the time pass by. The newly renovated museum is housed in a rebuilt firehouse and contains many historical displays. Free to the public, you can discover artifacts of the Indian and Spanish eras, the early San Carlos families and their homes, the 1888 Train Depot and photographs of early San Carlos schools and high school, and the restored 1927 Seagrave fire engine. Grab a coffee from Starbucks and enjoy an hour discovering this little quaint museum. Upon entering the museum, you will see a large aerial photo of the town taken in 1947. You will also get to view a collection of rare Sorcha Boru pottery on display in a rotating exhibit. The museum is open every Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. Enjoy a tour given by a member of the San Carlos Villagers, a group formed in 1949 to preserve the history of San Carlos. Without the villagers, San Carlos wouldn’t have the collection of letters, photographs, personal articles and relics of historical interest. Once your museum tour is complete, enjoy a walk around downtown before heading back to our San Carlos hotel.
