Christmas Tree Lane

One of Palo Alto’s most popular holiday traditions, Christmas Tree Lane, got its start way back in 1940 over a game of bridge. The neighbors gathered that night at Judge Edward E. Hardy’s home and discussed decorating their street with festive Christmas trees. The rest, as they say, is history. Ever since that fateful evening in 1940, the residents of the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Fulton Street have taken it as their holiday obligation to keep the tradition alive. The best way to experience the fun and majesty is to park on a nearby street and slowly stroll down the street so you can enjoy the sights at your own pace. You can also drive down the street, but be on the lookout for pedestrians. The holiday season has the power to bring people together, and Christmas Tree Lane is the visual representation of that marvelous power every year.
