Shakespeare in the Park

This year, 2017, marks the 35th anniversary of the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival which includes a free Shakespeare performance in the park. Every Saturday and Sunday throughout September, the company will be performing the Bard’s tragic drama, Hamlet, on the main lawn in the Presidio or at the amphitheater at McLaren Park. Hamlet is one of Shakespeare’s most popular and enduring works due to such themes as frustration, madness, family dysfunction, and ambition. Stephen Muterspaugh does a masterful job directing the play. The entire cast performs their roles wonderfully, and Nathaniel Andalis in particular stands out as the doomed Prince Hamlet. If you have seen or read the play before, you will be impressed by the decisions this cast and director have made. If Hamlet is new for you, you are sure to be delighted as the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival brings to life the immortal words of William Shakespeare.
