The Pulgas Water Temple

The Pulgas Water Temple is a beautiful monument to the incredible engineering feat that brought Hetch Hetchy mountain water more than 160 miles across California from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Bay Area. The ambitious project was completed during the Great Depression and is a true testament to American ingenuity and fortitude. Located only about 15 minutes from Hotel LiA, The Pulgas Water Temple is a great place to stop for a quick picnic or to just take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The monument was designed in the Beaux Arts style by William Merchant and features fluted columns and Corinthian capitals to reflect the architecture of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. This is appropriate since Greek and Roman techniques were used to complete the project. Architecture aficionados and local history buffs are sure to be amazed by The Pulgas Water Temple, but something this beautiful can be enjoyed by everyone.
